I am a painter based in Buffalo, NY. Varied images combined with expressive, abstract mark is what makes up my paintings. Since the process is very important in my work, marks of trial and error are present and integrated in the work. My work is ambiguous and has a raw quality to it, with multiple figures interacting and seeming to blend into the odd atmosphere on the canvas, creating a narrative quality and translating like a short poem. The more figurative paintings are often created from directly from photographs which I have taken and with found images from newspapers and the internet. The more abstract paintings are created from rough sketches or with pure automatism and instance while being painted using unconventional and experimental techniques such as paint-pouring, paint-throwing, collage and scraping to let under layers show. Figures and color provide as a device for communication, while the abstract space in which they are in evokes memory, nostalgia, personal experience, energy, relationships and images from one's life and from modern society and culture.
